A recent feature in the Daily Express explains how our new safety tech checks could spell the end for rogue fitters and killer leaks.

Gas Tag, whose life-saving test and tracking software combats the dangers posed by killer fumes and rogue fitters, is set to expand thanks to a multi-million pound private equity deal.

“We see our system as enforcing regulation, rather like the MOT does for the motor industry,” explain founder and chief executive Paul Durose.

Since launching last year the business has won local authority and housing association contracts as well as clients in property management and holiday let operators.

Despite rules requiring landlords to make annual gas checks, official UK registration body Gas Safe reports 1.1 million jobs are still carried out unlawfully each year.

This has been aided by an inefficient system where keeping track of paper-based certificates, replacement boilers and new additions is notoriously difficult and a barrier to rigorous oversight.

Now though for the first time a comprehensive alternative is available says Gas Tag which, as its name suggests, provides a smart device that only an authorised engineer can attach to a property’s meter.
