MPs urge housing associations to use gas safety technology to save lives

Gas Tag’s efforts to develop gas safety technology to improve safety in homes across the UK has been recognised in Parliament.

This comes as new research reveals the safety of millions of Britons is still being put at risk.

George Howarth MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) praising Gas Tag Ltd and calling on landlords and housing associations to support the “life-saving initiative”.

The EDM “commends Gas Tag Ltd for its work to improve the safety and well-being of tenants”. It also calls on private and public sector organisations to ensure safety systems are sourced from businesses such as Gas Tag.”

The EDM states:

“That this House welcomes and recognises the efforts of Liverpool-based company Gas Tag Ltd which seeks to improve gas safety in residential properties across the UK; notes that landlords, alongside social housing associations, are being asked to support this life saving initiative; commends Gas Tag Ltd for its work to improve the safety and wellbeing of tenants; and calls on organisations from both the private and public sectors involved in the procurement of such safety systems to use their best endeavors to ensure that these safety systems are sourced from UK businesses such as Gas Tag Ltd.”

Life-saving gas safety technology

The support from Mr Howard (Labour, Knowsley) comes as new research by the Gas Safe Register has revealed that almost five million people across the UK are putting themselves at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions by employing illegal gas engineers who aren’t properly qualified. 1

Paul Durose, co-founder and CEO of Gas Tag Ltd, said: “We set out in 2014 with a single minded goal to save people from the dangers of rogue gas fitters and revolutionise the industry. This latest research reveals just how important gas safety is.

“We are pleased that our work has been recognised by George Howarth and a number of cross-party MPs who appreciate our determination to improve gas safety in homes across the UK.”
