A Midlands housing group is installing innovative gas safety service technology in 3,000 of its properties.

Waterloo Housing Group Limited (the Group) has partnered with award-winning gas technology company Gas Tag enhancing the gas service and repair process to verify service visits are under taken to a strict schedule and the certification is made available in real time.

The Group and Gas Tag are working with a small local gas contractor to improve their systems and reporting methods, which has been proven to increase efficiencies and reduce paper.

Annual gas safety checks are a legal requirement for all landlords. However, with the paper-based certificates the transfer and storage of information, the production of reports and ultimate compliance verification is difficult and time consuming.

Gas Tag provides a robust cost effective system, which enables the small to medium size gas contractor to provide robust LGSR and gas servicing data without considerable investment in expensive IT systems.

Gas Tag offers complete transparency to both client and contractor and works by keeping a geo-tagged, time-stamped and photo-verified record of all work carried out on a gas appliance. All the information is uploaded to a centralised web-based portal and the Gas Safe Registered engineer verification feature prevents unregistered gas fitters from recording any work through the system.

Karl Hodgkins, Compliance and Gas Manager of Waterloo Housing Group, said: “Gas Tag offers the contractor a solution we were looking for, to help us all operate more efficiently and to manage compliance in a modern world.

“The software greatly improves the asset information provided by the contractor as it keeps a track of the work flow for annual gas certificates, repairs, replacement boilers and new appliances.

“It’s an extremely practical way for us to use new technology and we are delighted that it is being installed in 3,000 of our properties.”

Waterloo Housing Group build and manage affordable homes across the Midlands and Lincolnshire. The Gas Tags are due to be installed in 3,000 of their properties in the Matlock area. The technology has been heralded as “the most significant quantum leap in domestic gas safety compliance in 20 years” by Barry Sheerman MP, the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Carbon Monoxide.

Stephen Ullathorne, co-founder and chief executive for Gas Tag said: “We are excited to be working with Waterloo Housing Group. They are a forward-thinking housing group that clearly puts tenant safety at the heart of what they do. Our technology is an industry first and gives real-time data to monitor life-saving gas safety checks.”
